Do snorkels increase power?

The primary purpose of a snorkel is not to increase power output. While some snorkels may contribute to improved engine performance under certain conditions, the gains are typically modest and may not be noticeable in everyday driving.

Snorkels can provide cooler and potentially cleaner air to the engine, which can improve combustion and contribute to better throttle response. They can also help maintain consistent airflow by reducing the risk of air filter clogging, which indirectly supports optimal engine performance.

The impact on power output depends on the specific vehicle model, engine design and overall intake system. Any gains are generally more prominent in engines with forced induction - turbocharged or supercharged - that rely on optimal air-to-fuel ratios for maximum performance.

Overall, while a snorkel can have some positive effects on engine performance, its primary function is water crossing capability, protection against dust and debris, and keeping the intake system efficient.
